Want to see the long and short of it without reading a "comprehensive review? Here goes. I have a Kindle DX and an original Kindle and I had an iPad for a week. I love them all, but I have the iPad. That's what I experienced so far:
VERSATILITY - Apps, Movies, Music, Pictures, effective internet connectivity, color screen, intuitive graphic interface all combine to make iPad hands down winner in this category.
DISPLAY - E-ink is much better to read, especially in bright light. And the small screen of the Kindle is not so easy to spot as the screen iPad.
However, a beautiful color screen IPAD and once you take the habit of reading is not difficult. I especially like the display back-lit at night, while reading in bed ... I can read the contents of my heart and my wife does not sleep worth it.
Available in the headphones and my entire iTunes library Slip, as I read. When you read a single device for books, Kindle wins. If you want color and a screen that plots of the books and the images clearly show the victory of the iPad.
PAGE INTERFACE - In fact, I like much better than I turn on the Kindle iPad. Although IPAD has a fresh visual flip (it seems that the page is actually shooting), the touch screen too sensitive and there is very little room to hold the screen. The result is that I constantly flip to the iPad if I do not want. Kindle keys win this hands down.
COMFORT - the iPad, all my media in one place the book (audio books, photos, music, books, internet, news / weather, address, e-mail ... the list goes on). Kindle, while excellent player and still requires me to bring an iPod or a laptop when I travel. iPad is the winner.
PRICES - Kindle and IPAD are simply not so distant. If a hundred U.S. dollars exceed the budget, stick with the Kindle, because it is an excellent player. If you can afford a bit 'more, go with the iPad ... It 's just a lot more versatile. If the Kindle DX were only a few hundred dollars less than it would be a great blessing to read.
Books available - hands down, throws Amazon Apple also has the volume of titles available. But Apple shares often include color photos, graphics, etc., that can be done effectively by the reader for easy viewing.
Drawback here is that Apple shares are often more expensive. The winner here is Amazon / Kindle. However, there is an application for the iPad, which you can play media files Amazon Kindle.
It is not yet very elegant design, but allows you to easily read the title and I am sure that this program will only improve with time.
Sex Appeal - ok, if the Kindle was introduced, it was a hot spot. I could not read at the airport without being asked to stop at least a couple of times by people what it was and the decline of the review.
Same thing with the iPad, except that it is exponentially hotter. With its sleek design, color display and tons of great applications, people go crazy for asking. In short, it has generated some interest and this is the fact that Apple has sold more than worth a million of these things in the first month of availability.
The thing is addictive ... With Kindle, I can read a book. With the iPad, I can almost everything I could before on my laptop and I can read a book.
In my opinion only - sorry Amazon. You have a great product that has revolutionized the entire ebook market (the others have gone before you, but you have to work). Kindle is a great product, but given the IPAD, the machine is too expensive.
Your library will continue the measurement standard by which all the others and I will continue to buy electronic books from you, but I will play an iPad. On this occasion, rare where I am on a reading in the sun on the beach, my Kindle, because it has an advantage there.
