I rarely, if ever, write to the products, simply because they rarely meet more than one product that is strong, whether or not the published description. The PRS-300 Pocket Edition eReader is a device that has a much better experience than expected.
A device which I got through the iPod Touch, which I found only one of the best purchases of durable goods, that I've ever had impressed. Strangely, my principle was to use the Touch as eBook reader, and it was touch shortcomings as a eBook reader, which eventually led me to buy Sony PRS-300 "Pocket Edition".
I read a lot, both in my work commute (1.5 hours per day on public transport) and in the evenings and weekends. Conservatives, I read, probably upwards of 20 hours weekly, both ebooks and download the news and the like. I already purchased the Sony PRS-505, the end of 2007, and found a good eReader. The PRS-505 with a cutting edge, anti-glare picture is easy to read and relax. Unfortunately, it was a bit 'sensitive, and within weeks of purchase I could (only had 2.5 meters drops) and crush the corner comes away from the Power Slider. Having fixed under warranty, I told the PRS-505, mid-2008 when I bought an iPod Touch. I read on the touch, and - briefly - on Amazon Kindle 2 until I bought the PRS-300.
The new PRS-300 Pocket Edition "over-as some of the shortcomings of the Sony PRS-505 and the Amazon Kindle 2:
1. Great form-factor: the PRS-300 really in a pocket or purse or fits comfortably in the pocket of my cargo shorts over the weekend. This is an improvement over the PRS-505, or that always seemed a bit 'too large (fits in a pocket or a backpack or something' short in his pocket), or not enough (with PDF files and spreadsheets Read graphics, or better structured documents such as manuals). The PRS 505 and Kindle 2 have been difficult from Jul hand (which is why I PRS-505 back in the attempt, my e-mail). While the paperback edition, which are not big or structured documents, we see this as a trade-off for this model in favor of his more useful format. And 'ideal for books, news, blog posts and the like, and not to take your hand or pocket, I often take with me when I'm out and use it more than the Kindle or PRS-505 2nd
2. Excellent ergonomics: the PRS-300 feels just great in his hand has good balance and a very comforting book that reminds me of how a company Paperback just rest in the hand without the need to capture knowledge and adapt constantly. This is a real improvement over the two PRS 505 and Kindle 2: Both devices have been very, very bright, the consumer is usually the holy grail of product design, but not very well balanced and have always been aware the decision to exercise control over the machine, especially if you are on the page-turning buttons. The paperback edition is not difficult - it is actually easier than the two PRS 505 and Kindle 2, about 7.5 grams - but the smaller form factor combined with its perfect balance, you can easily disappear in his reading, without the physicality of the input device. While this type of transparency is a goal of Kindle, I admit that I was rarely with the Kindle 2, without having to get in one way or another (usually read back in balance in hand). The paperback edition is a page-turn button - the big round navigation button at the bottom of the center - but the road is easily accessible with the thumb, while the reader to the page. The button is solid, without being intrusive pressure drive (which is often observed to fail, to me, is the PRS-505 and Kindle 2). Of all the things that I liked for the Pocket Edition, are really comfortable, discrete physical design is perhaps the most outstanding quality.
3. Most Sustainable design: the PRS-300, like the iPhone or iPod Touch or your laptop to get a piece of consumer electronics that will not fall alone. Electronics are tender (unless you spend ungodly sums of Toughbooks, etc.) and not tolerant of abuse. That is, the housing and the design of the Pocket Edition is a huge step up from the PRS-505, which as I said, I fall ill from a (not very far) injured. I "Oops" Pocket Edition and a couple of times and was struck by the fact that the robust aluminum housing with plastic plugs and power slider, is a state much harder than its predecessor. In terms of sustainability, it is probably comparable to the Kindle 2, Kindle 2, hit back, but at least Amazon's sales material appears to be "drops and falls on the Sony Reader is not built to withstand. EReaders Compared to other market, ' Pocket edition much more in terms of weight, heavy-duty aluminum front panel keys and the (very) slightly elastic plastic caps.
4. Excellent image quality: the image of the Pocket Edition is fresh, clear and easy to read constant in both high and medium-light conditions. The screen is not obvious, and there are only once (in the neon light a bit 'hard) when I needed something to move to a position on a diffraction of light from the screen. The screen quality is similar to the PRS-505, and significantly better than the Kindle 2 are a bit 'surprised, because there is only one E Ink technology on the market today, and manufacturers of screens of all licenses by the same process , and with the same parameters of quality control (the parameters are part of the license agreement), really do not understand why Kindle 2 screens seem a notch or two lower than their competitors to do. I read that a decision is made the image lighter character on Amazon Kindle 2 (1 Kindle owners of record and complained), then maybe it's just a software problem. But I finally decided to ditch the Kindle 2 pictures when I literally fade in direct sunlight (you noticed this problem, some users' comments and would like a replacement for Amazon Kindle units this experience). Sony Pocket Edition, but has a much sharper image, with significantly darker character, a white (light) background screen, almost no reflection and no funky transitions, distortions or other effects to inhibit the reading. The clarity and ease of reading the image is as good as (and sometimes higher) than a physical book.
5. Very good interface, on-device: The device interface on the PRS-300 is easy, simple and easy to navigate. As the paperback edition (contrary to the PRS-505, the Kindle 2, and the new Sony PRS-600 Touch Edition) contains no MP3 player and photo viewer, Pocket Edition interface is for the book, and better navigation. It takes one or two clicks more than a "look", as it needs access to a book, or scroll naar a particular target, but I decided that verwachting wordt deze largely affect our use of personal computers (and made iPod / iPhone), quick response (as opposed to e-Ink) and flexible design options menu (found under a year that PRS-600 Touch explains to some extent with its touch-screen). Compared to PRS-505 or the Kindle 2, the on-device interface of the Pocket Edition is easy to use / easy, and perhaps better, because they have the music, the image browser, text-to-speech, etc.. Options. The device interface is very good, and given the technology, it is only the consent of the touchscreen, which should improve.
6. Acceptable Sony Software Library: Software Library Sony was always reminded me of Apple's iTunes is slower than it should be less intuitive than it could be less flexible than the competition, and usually at least a little 'frustrating. At the lowest level, as a tool to transfer the contents of your PC / Mac to take the reader, the software library, its destination, the software, but more slowly than the "looks" like it should. Like iTunes, it makes you wonder why it takes twice as long to process a file than in Windows Explorer / Mac Finder asks, and "Why can not a big consumer electronics companies like Sony (and Apple Transfer do) best? "The library of short events is particularly disconcerting when one considers that a free tool to make software, Calif., ebook by a passionate lover, more than the Sony library, faster, more intuitive and less intrusive, and freeze regular planned. I use the library for my Sony and Sony bought Calibre content for my personal content. If your personal, non-DRM content, I can not recommend it enough Calibre (I said free?) In addition, Caliber comprehensive, easy to use media feeds, you can easily transfer them directly to your readers, both from newspapers and magazines. (If you want to use Calibre, please consider making a donation, it really is a brilliant program that is constantly updated and improved.) Sony Library building itself is frustrating that can sometimes be, is no reason to reject the PRS-300. Library software does its job and is reliable and improved. The local library Finder is a great novelty, and one that - finally - me with my local library, ebooks, instead of continuing to purchase. When I read the press releases for the new Sony Reader, I present this feature, but soon ...
