By David Coleman "A high quality eBook reader"
I had a Sony PRS-600 Touch Edition, I received a surprise. I was happy, but remained for the big screen, G4 Reader PRS -activated Daily Edition. I am happy to sell easily on eBay and 600 make the switch. The instrument is very well built very professional in all aspects, well-designed aluminum frame it.
The scale of Sony Reader Daily Edition is much better than the 600 to view PDF files, newspapers, etc. The ability to download from the Sony book store is quick and easy to use. Since the device supports multiple formats (including the now standard EPUB), you can easily look around one of several websites and download the book to your computer, and easier to get on the player.
The program library reader and a USB cable. I must admit that my biggest problem with the 600, the known problem of glare touch screen, which is really easy to deal with lighting conditions. Approximately the same level of light to read a paper book. NBD.
However, reading Sony Reader Daily Edition at night, a question that I found particularly satisfying. Cover SONY illuminated for 600 was only acceptable, it would not be a coincidence with the 900 version. I have the "Kandler" Light hopes w / satisfactory report and was subsequently appointed.
I think the display of Sony Reader Daily Edition PRS900 is much better than the 600, the availability of 16 compared to 8 levels of gray tones really improved image. The touch screen offers a display area larger than the Kindle. Its use is intuitive for all purposes.
I found the meal difficult in every sense. This equipment has reached the pinnacle of my stack. If I had the opportunity to assess 4.5 out of 5.0 stars
By R.Campbell "Overall, I love it"
It seems that every e-book reader is to be a compromise one way or another. For me, the Sony PRS-900 is the best currently (February 2010).
* Why I love:
Sony Reader Daily Edition is very mobile, but has a good screen size. Support memory cards and a user-replaceable battery. The top cover works well and protect the screen. Also comes with an additional, very hard, difficult case.
The camera is stylish and fits in your pocket, great, just like a paperback book would be. The touch screen is important to me, as E-ink display is slower with the touch screen you can quickly select a word to see its definition or to make a note.
Battery life is impressive: I saw on the wall three weeks ago, and are always at half load. Meanwhile, some had very short top-up when I connected via USB to transfer the books. I read every day. The device could last two weeks claimed by Heavy Reading.
The criticism I have is the PDF support. I have a lot of books in PDF format and the reader will see, most of them very well. In particular, the function of the target culture is essential for improved readability. I find that I do not use the panorama mode very often, but it is good to have.
* Monitor:
If you read elsewhere on this drive, you will see many comments on the glow of the screen. The reflection from the touch screen reduces the contrast of light and create glare, making it impossible to read in certain situations.
What you should know that knowledge is dazzling, others annoyed some people, but no. Personally, I think I can still angle the device to read easily and without worries me. You must set the unit a fair chance in the conditions under which a rule to read.
The I drive is a 30-day trial version (bought by Sony), and after the first day I've hated the screen, and plans to return. Two days later, I just noticed the glow of the screen. Now I had the unit for three weeks and I do not want to go back: It 'benefits outweigh the issue of screen reflection.
I read a lot in general satisfied all the conditions, I read a paper book. This means that I would have preferred a screen without the glare and reflections that I deduct one star.
User Interface *:
PC software from Sony, with the game interface is nonsense. I use the free "Caliber" took place. The software interface on the device itself is easy to use, but some annoying quirks:
- If the new books are strange, said the newly defined order of the books read (in conjunction with Caliber, though). margin-clipping function can be together again after some users.
- If the "return" back from a press book category page list of categories at the top of the list of categories of spine, not the page with the category you Last viewed.
- Can change fonts in epub.
- Books are marked "read" If you open only once, because it can not be marked as read?
- There is no easy way to enter the dictionary from a financial point of view, to find the word, not the current page. You must return to the home page, click Applications, click the dictionary. You can also search for words on the page and press the Edit button to try another word. Both methods were indirect.
* Book Store on 3G
This works well enough, but even with a 3G signal strength is high, terribly slow. Why not just add wifi? I found that about 30% of the time when you press a button to save the page of the book, register it (below) appears, But nothing happens when you press a second or third.
I bought a book or two on him and the procedure is fairly painless, although the first book has made several attempts to download.
For a referral: When you turn off 3G has been separated from the bank and signed by your account. Ok ... Then you must connect to the store, there will be a book you want and click "Add to My List."
But you realize that you are not logged in. .. Book you then sent to the login page and after the application and are not added to the wish list. Instead, one is on the home page and try restore again. This is annoying at best and double time on the screen of a slow e-ink.
* Conclusion
The glow of the screen to be a problem. The other is the user interface is botched. Not working with the user interface much more when reading a book and so I decided not to subtract a star to interact on the screen.
However, Sony Reader Daily Edition pull up his socks the user interface. Sony, please release a firmware update for the E-interface! I know, I counted a large number of problems with the PRS 900, but not really hurt the overall experience: I read.
For the record, I tried the food at B & N and I liked it because it was very slow. I did not buy because of the Kindle screen is small compared to the size of the device and PDF features behind Sony.
The Kindle is "closed" than the Sony, it is difficult to get books from sources other than Amazon does.
