I had previously owned a much larger camera but decided, when it was stolen, to move to a smaller one that fit better into a fanny pack. This certainly fit the bill - actually took me a while to learn how to hold it because it is so small. Pictures are clear and easy to download. Since I've had a Canon before, I could easily understand the menu. People admire the large screen. It does hesitate before actually taking a picture, but not as long as some I've seen. I've really enjoyed the wide angle setting - could fit quite a large group in one shot. Battery life lasted through over 100 photos over two weeks.

I bought this camera for its ability to record 720p video. Although it was obvious from reviews that the optical zoom could not be used while recording video, it was not at all clear that the camera does not change focus while recording. If your subject moves closer to the camera (or farther away) while recording, it will go out of focus.
I missed this when reading other reviews. The user manual, which can be downloaded from the Canon USA website, states this clearly -- if you know where to look.
Based on their respective user manuals, it appears that the Powershot SD780 IS and SD1400 IS have the same limitation.

This is a great little camera. I have to be honest, I just googled the best digital camera for 2010 and this camera popped up. My last two cameras blitzed within a year of purchase, and I reviewed cameras extensively. Needless to say it was a huge disappointment, I believe one was the Kodak snapshot.
I am extremely pleased with this camera, it is very compact and easy to use, and most important..great pictures.

Bought this camera because it was one of the top rated cameras from Consumer Reports. Not disappointed. Camera takes great photos for the occasional shooter and its slim size makes it nice and portable. I bought an 8GB SD card for it so that I don't have to worry about running out of space.
