You can read a dozen reviews about this phone so I won't repeat them. The hardware and fit-and-finish are top notch. The Android OS v.1.5 does NOT impress. 1.6 has been out for months and 2.0 has been out for a few weeks now.
*** Samsung has not stated whether they will update the phone at all or to what Android version. ***
The Samsung PC software absolutely stinks. It does not recognize the phone, it cannot flash the phone, it's basically useless. The forums are full of people wondering why Samsung would ship software like this.
It hurts to see Samsung rolling out phones with exciting specs and then not supporting them. HTC is updating all their prior phones to Android 2.0, and most importantly they have told their customers what they are doing. Time for Samsung to step up. I would not buy this phone as-is with Android 1.5. It will probably be decent with 1.6 and great with 2.0.

Overview: This is a great product. yes there is no market icon, but a little googling will help you update the firmware, and once that is done...it works superb! best Android phone on market till date. The only thing is Samsung needs to officially support this phone in the US. SAMSUNG AMERICA DOES NOT SUPPORT THIS PHONE! Not recommended for the newbie to phone flashing. Its slimmer than the MyTouch. The AMOLED screen is brighter on the LOWEST setting than the Mytouch on the HIGHEST setting. Yes that much of a difference.
The Good: Battery Life, slim-factor, super bright screen. Feels sturdy. Great signal. LOW Radiation compared to Mytouch 3G. .60 vs 1.50 SAR. official google experience device. The Australian version officially supports MyFaves.
The Bad: Currently not supported by Samsung America. Firmware most like will need updating. Does not come with the Android Market icon out of the box.

Just bought this phone in Taiwan, and I must say i'm impressed with it. After 1 week of playing with it the Amoled screen is phenomenal and while there are some lag issues they're not prevalent enough for me to find them annoying. The OS is stock android so the UI certainly doesn't have quite the polish of the iPhone but with all the apps on android market you should be able skin it to your own preferences.
I'm only running a few widgets so I'm a little concerned whether the processor actually has enough power to run everything smoothly once i load quite a few up. I admit i'm a little old fashioned so I do like the hard buttons with a dedicated back button and home screen button. This does limit the rotation to horizontal in only one direction but does make up for it in utility for me. The keyboard in vertical mode is a little a little small awkward but once in horizontal mode it becomes much better. You won't be braking any texting records but you can still accurately type at a decent pace.
I'm using it as my business phone/PDA so I haven't really dabbled in the social networking aspect of it but i'm finding alot of the productivity apps useful. Not quite the iphone killer yet but the open source potential and advanced hardware does make it the top contender so far.
The most disappointing feature would be the camera. The LED flash just isn't bright enough and most indoor shots seem underexposed. Certainly not unsalvageable by any means in post processing but I was expecting a little more from it. As with any smart phone be prepared to manage power consumption fastidiously. As a test I turned on the GPS, Wifi, and 3G on a full charge and only managed to eek about 4 hours operating time.
With all this being said, I love this phone. Haven't really played with the PC software support for the phone as of yet and I hear that Samsung is very quick to implement firmware upgrades so I'm sure Donut will be available from Samsung in the near future.
Hope this helps anyone on the fence.
