Product Description
"The machine had been invented a few years ago: a machine that could tell, from just a sample of your blood, how you were going to die. It didn't give you the date and it didn't give you specifics. It just spat out a sliver of paper upon which were printed, in careful block letters, the words DROWNED or CANCER or OLD AGE or CHOKED ON A HANDFUL OF POPCORN. It let people know how they were going to die." MACHINE OF DEATH tells thirty-four different stories about people who know how they will die. Prepare to have your tears jerked, your spine tingled, your funny bone tickled, your mind blown, your pulse quickened, or your heart warmed. Or better yet, simply prepare to be surprised. Because even when people do have perfect knowledge of the future, there's no telling exactly how things will turn out. Featuring stories by: Randall Munroe * Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw * Tom Francis * Camille Alexa * Erin McKean * James L. Sutter * and many others. Featuring illustrations by: Kate Beaton * Kazu Kibuishi * Aaron Diaz * Jeffrey Brown * Scott C. * Roger Langridge * Karl Kerschl * Cameron Stewart * and many others.

"WAYYY too accurate! More powerful than 3-wolf-moon shirt." 2010-10-26

This book is amazing. I was going to buy it just now, but just as I was turning on one-click-purchase, a little slip of paper fell onto the corner of the desk. It looked like it fell out the AC duct? Whatever, but it said "Reading 'Machine of Death'" on it and that's it. So no, I will not buy this book! The Machine is way too powerful! It predicted I'd die of reading the book about it, just before I went to buy it. So maybe when I'm like, 300 years old and tired of living, then I'll finally read 'Machine of Death' so I can end my existence, but until then keep it away from me!!

This is how it should be, all of the events in your life have culminated to this one moment. Now you are presented a choice, but you know that there is only one possible outcome. The Machine of Death is calling your name, and there is nothing that can be done to stop it.

"Amazing, just amazing" 2010-10-26

This book...whew, I needed to take a breath there. This book is pure buttery heaven after a sexy-time romp in Jehovah's bedsheets with a talking T-Rex. I mean other than the death and all of that in it, but I think you get the idea. I literally, literally now, saw a unicorn give birth after walking through the forest while reading the 40-page preview. It was that good! Also, I understand Glenn Beck gets whipped by Sarah Palin every time his book drops a position in the best sellers list.

"EXISTENTIAL DREAD" 2010-10-26

So, this is a fantastic book. I read some of the stories and they are all top-notch quality. Delightful.

However, one thing bothers me. As soon as I ordered the book, a note was passed through my door by an apparently invisible force. The note simply said, EXISTENTIAL DREAD. Now, I wasn't fazed at first. Except then I was, because I started to read more stories and the machine was right in each case.

I tried to rationalize it away but it gnawed and gnawed at me. I couldn't do anything about it. The machine was like God.

I hope you enjoy this product. 5 stars for accuracy. Goodbye.
