I expected to get a mediocre sharpener for this cost. I was quite surprised at the edge this little guy is capable of achieving. Haven't used the serrated sharpener, but the carbide and ceramic sharpeners allowed me to achieve arm shaving sharpness.

I bought this sharpener specifically for the diamond taper sharpener (for serrations) since I needed a tool to sharpen my serrations. For that, the Smith's PP1 Pocket pal works very well! It also has carbide and ceramic serrations to sharpen the blade, but I do not use that for my more expensive knives (although it works fine for cheaper blades). Money well spent.

Good for the price, plastic case, ceramic portion clogges up after repeated use, . The redi edge lasts longer with reversable carbide blades and a aluminun handle. It only has the carbide blades though. In all the pocket pal is a good sharpener for infrequent use / emergency use to touch up blades. I would of gave it five stars if the carbide was the whole "V" notch instead of a little carbide piece brazed into the each side of the "V".

While I prefer tradional Arkansas Stones for my knives, this is a very good product for quickly sharpening machettes, hatchets/tomahawks, axes and trowel/e-tool/shovel points. Very compact and light-weight for backpacking and emergency/survival kits and does an excellent job sharpening. The only addition I would suggest is a groove in the diamond rod for sharpening fish hooks. I would recommend this to family and friends and I will likely purchase additional units for my various emergency/survival kits.
