"Great GPS just one complaint" 2010-11-01
By Salt lake
I have had this unit for a little over two years now. My over all impression is that it is great and accurate and easy to use. This GPS goes every where with me. This thing was a life saver when we went to Disney Land and Sea world last year. We didn't get lost once and it even helped us when we had to take detours from the original directions that we got from Map quest.

This thing is a Joy to go geo caching with. I am converting my whole family to that activity.

The Maps that you buy are good, I just wish for how much you have to pay for them, they would offer free up dates. O well I guess they got to make a buck some how. I do not see my self buying another GPS like this one for a while. It is so well built it seems like this thing will be with me for a long time.

My only complaint and I am still waiting for a Firm ware update to fix it is, every once and a while the unit will freeze up. To fix it I have to pull out the batteries and reinstall. A real pain if I am driving. Despite this complaint I still give this thing a five due to the enjoyment I have had owning it.

Other than the one complaint I have enjoyed this device and would recommend it to my friends.

"Lat- Lon?" 2010-10-28
By Daniel (Brooklin, ME USA)
I wish someone would mention whether or not these devices give Latitude and Longitude designations. I'm trying to survey the boundries of thickly wooded land and I need some way to define where the boundries are. Also, what is this crazy system used on topo maps? Why isn't lat lon more precisely indicated? Can anyone refer me to helpful information. Sorry, this isn't a review. Signed, Hansel and Gretel

"Garmin 60CS upgraded to the 60CSx" 2010-10-16
By Baron von French (Tallahassee, FL)
I took the plunge and upgraded to the 60CSx when my long time travel parter, the 60CS was stolen from my vehicle. I had a few complaints about the 60CS, but only complaints that you would have after owning it for a long time.

I didn't like the ease in which it lost satellites in big cities or in dense canopy. Acquisition seemed like it took a bit too long sometimes and when you need the GPS, and it has to reacquire, it can be very frustrating when it is slow.

I also hated being limited to 54mb of memory. I could fill that in no time and had to take a laptop with me to download the next set of maps if I was taking a decent road trip. It was annoying.

Finally, the unit was glitchy in it's later years. Mine would freeze every once in a while and the only way to solve it was to turn the unit off and then turn it back on. Of course doing this lost all of your current trip averages and all the counters would start over. this would also start your trip to a waypoint from where you are standing, not from where you started, so I lost all the miles I had traveled too.

The 60CSx, which I have owned for a total of two days now, is incredible. The boot time is much faster, as is the acquisition of satellites from my armchair in my house (where I unpacked the box and powered it on for the first time). I bought with it a Kingston 4GB micro SDHD card and downloaded my old maps to it. I chose this size of chip because I called a Garmin rep and he told me the larger, newer maps can press closer to 4GB. So, with the cards being under ten bucks, I went for it.

Uploading the maps took hours, literally. I went to bed when it said I had 3 hours left of loading and I had already spent the past hour setting the CSx up the way I like it to operate. But, I now have all of North America on the chip and didn't have to buy a new set of maps. The upload time from PC to the unit seems the same...slow. All future map upgrades will be bought on the microchip from Garmin.

The maps work like a charm. I am driving from Florida to NC next weekend and it routed the trip for me in moments. It is so much faster than the old 60CS.

Acquiring satellites is really fast, it holds the lock even indoors and the computing in the unit is so much faster than the old model. The time it took me to produce directions to NC was about as fast as the old unit would take to produce short two hour drives or recalculations if I missed a turn.

All in all, I am very pleased. It looks and feels like my old unit, but with a tune up. I highly recommend this model.

"Using it for Topo" 2010-10-14
By R. Kofoed (Nevada)
I bought this GPS for an upcoming sheep hunt I was going on. I had purchased another brand and returned it very quickly. I read all the great reviews from many different sites and it was all true. This unit is very user friendly, gets your position very quickly and feels well built. I uploaded a 3 party topo product and it works fantastic. I was suprised at the amount of dirt roads it had and the topo display was super. Battery life has been about 15 hours. Great Product, Amazon had the best price I could find.

"Garmin 60csx 2010 fall review, skip the 62. overpriced dribble" 2010-09-20
By J. pace (cassleberry, FL United States)
Still the best devise on the market. I was ready to purchase the next best GPS money could by and ended up with Garmin 60CSX. Recently an owner of the 6o c,, (yawnnn) the 60CSX is still better than anything avail. Including any of the SPOT GPS receivers. The fact you save 400.00 by not buying the latest generation of GPS is a major plus. IF you can find out exactly what maps you need and "acquire" them, this would be a 4 star review. There is no reason garmin should put this product out without some usable maps of your choice. The fact they hide this very important part is deceiving and very capitalist!

Sirfstar on this unit is amazing!!! Inside my brick house I had 7 satellite receptions.I live in the mountains and am tucked behind the west side where most of the GPS sats are coming from. Total tree coverage, down in the valley, totally hidden accept Garmin has me totally located the entire time! I never lost signal. teh 60c was a dog... awful.

Verdict save your money from buying the delorme and the garmin 62. This is a total steal with the newest technology.
